Mass Hysteria AAR - Escorting the Civilians to Safety

  1. Looks fun Ed - must admit I haven't played any THW zombie stuff yet, as I tend to stick to Nuts!/CR FV but may dive in after all :)

  2. The biggest misconception about ATZ is people think its a zombie game when it's really about the humans.
As an aside, this is going to be a fun game.

  3. Still looks interesting, and brutal on the humans. I had some questions about it:

    1. Dos MH work with 28mm figures?

    2. If you can play MH with 28mm figures, what size game board would you need?

    3. How many figures would you need for a standard MH game?

    4. Is there any interaction with terrain? (i.e. buildings or barricades etc.)

    5. Can a MH campaign dovetail with FFO? What I mean is can your ATZ character get swept up in a mission of MH and then drop back to FFO? Or could a MH figure get routed and turn into a FFO survivor for a few games until they can join back up with other humans?

    6. Can you give any details on how you manage resources in the campaign?

    Here goes, answers below.

    1. Dos MH work with 28mm figures?

    Yes.

    2. If you can play MH with 28mm figures, what size game board would you need?

You could play with them as written or double distances. The key is that the city blocks should be three times as wide as a unit. If doubling the distances maybe a 4x4 board at least.

    3. How many figures would you need for a standard MH game?

Units are 3 figures each so a big game would have 10 units. For zombies maybe 50ish. If you get too many just keep track with a marker instead of figures.

    4. Is there any interaction with terrain? (i.e. buildings or barricades etc.)

Buildings are lumped into city blocks and units occupy whole blocks instead of buildings. Barricades would go from block to block.

    5. Can a MH campaign dovetail with FFO? What I mean is can your ATZ character get swept up in a mission of MH and then drop back to FFO? Or could a MH figure get routed and turn into a FFO survivor for a few games until they can join back up with other humans?

Definitely. Stars are unit leaders. Grunts are in the units, will work well.

    6. Can you give any details on how you manage resources in the campaign?

You start with a variable amount of units and when they go, they go. reinforcements are randomly generated.
    Hope this helps.

  5. Super, thanks for the feedback. I've got at least 100 zeds, so I'll just need some movement trays for everyone.

I'm still a little confused with the way the city block thing works. I play ATZ on a 4'x4' board and the way my street grid is laid out, I can only make 3 blocks by 3 blocks on the table. I'm assuming I'll have to step up to 4'x6' to make MH work.

  6. When using 28mm your unit will probably be 2" wide. So a block would be 6" square. But that's only if you double distances.

But MH will work with what you have. An easy way is to make a map with more blocks and only use the table represent a portion of it. So maybe you have 8 feet of table but the last 4 feet are on paper, moving to the table when called for.
As the zeds are always moving towards the humans you wouldn't have a very long table.

  7. Gotcha. I'll keep an eye out for it.
