Star Marine 5150 AAR - Boarding a Hishen Slaver

5150: Star Marine is self-contained game that lets you take on the role of a Star Marine, and lead your Characters and soldiers into combat and actions in floating space hulks, airless moons, and planets with an atmosphere so nasty you’ll be dead if your suit is breached.

It’s an easy game to play. This makes it easy to learn and easy to teach. It’s easy, but it’s also fun.  It’s easy, but also a challenge. It’s perfect for when you want to spend less time setting up the game than actually playing it.

5150 Star Marine is aimed at the casual or new gamer with little or no experience, but don’t underestimate it.  It’s perfect for playing solo or on the same side with your friends. It doesn’t take much time to learn yet is a fun little game. No two games will ever play out the same.

Let's see a day in the life of a Star Marine. Newly promoted Star Marine Sgt. Graham E. Adams (Rep 5) has been put in charge of a section of Star Marines and ordered to board a Hishen Slaver that has been disabled by a Star Navy cutter, while the rest of the squad is tasked with boarding a Freighter caught trying to flee. Busy day!

  2. I love Batreps that use the comic book layout style. What's that? You say that I have a copy of the rules waiting for me in the airlock? That's fantastic! Hmmm, I don't see them ... Hey, you locked me in the airlock. (bang bang) Yooo Hoooo! Edddddd, please open the.... Pfffffshhhhhhhhhhhh

  3. Is there an option for battle board rules? I've taken a liking to them. :)

  4. Yes it does. The combat in this BATREP was done using the battle board style rules, with an Action roll followed by the Shooting roll. I called it In Sight instead of Action -- old habit, sorry! You can of course also use Star Army rules for combat just as easily.

  5. WOW! Very exciting. Can't wait. It was also gratifying to see the World Works ship built and in use. I have in PDF, but have successfully resisted building it.

  6. Have to agree with Scott; I'm coming over to the battle board style for all my scraps. Initially I thought they were too simple, but in practice, just as dynamic.

    1. I'm pro battle board and here's why. Back in the day I owned a Lazer Tag Stadium in Seattle - no really - Starbase One.

Out first was 3000 square feet. After watching the game play for three months we saw that all the fighting took place in a 500 square foot area. Due to range, LOS, etc. The rest of the space was taken up by walking around trying to find the opponent.

When we opened the 2nd one we did it in 1000 square feet. It played quicker, was just as intense, and people spent more time shooting than walking around.

Having come from the 4 x 6 foot table, dropping to 3 x 3 was a bit of a leap. But then I remembered Lazer Tag and knew the 1 foot Battle Board could work.

    2. Huh, who would have thought the battle board would have been born from real world experience! Pretty cool. :)

    3. Pretty good analyses. Historically most modern infantry actions happen under 100 to 50 meters.

  7. Will the battle board rules include being able to use just tiles instead of a "terrain" type layout?

Looks awesome and glad it's going to be released soon!

    1. Not sure if I understand, but maybe I do.
      Fights can be on 6 x 12" corridors, 12 x 12" sections or using the 3 x 3 foot table.
      Make sense?

    2. Yeah, I didn't word that question clearly at all! Basically, I wanted to know if it would describe how to use the battle board system with generic tiles, so I think you answered it in spite of my poor wording!

      Thanks,
      Brian
